This is the official Rate The Record Podcast! Each week, and album will be chosen (my choice, request, anniversary, etc.). Listen to the whole thing, discuss it, then we hit that bread and butter by ranking the songs and rating the record! Pretty cut and dry, right? Join me for weekly album reviews! Additionally, over on the YouTube page you can find new music reviews and deep dives into some of my all-time favourite songs! Who knows, maybe you’ll hear your favourite album on the show! Abd maybe, just maybe, this will be your new favourite music based podcast! We’re always looking for and considering albums and new music to have on the show. All aboard for episode 29! This week we set sail on one of Kris' chosen albums. Let's take a look at Primus and their 1991 album "Sailing the Seas of Cheese"
Primus is a progressive/funk-rock/metal band out of El Sobrante, California that formed in 1984. The band's most notable and longest last formation consists of Les Claypool on vocals and bass, Larry "Ler" Lalonde on guitar, and Tim "Herb" Alexander on drums and percussion. Their second studio album and major-label debut "Sailing the Seas of Cheese" was released in May 1991 under Interscope records and was recorded in Fantasy studios located in Berkeley, California. The album received positive reviews across several outlets. The album spawned the 3 singles "Jerry Was a Race Car Driver", "Tommy the Cat", and "Those Damned Blue-Collar Tweekers." We're finally doing another listener request! Not only that, but we'll be doing 2 more over the next 5 weeks, so stay tuned for that! Today, we're looking at The Grapes of Wrath and their 1989 album "Now and Again."
The Grapes of Wrath are an alternative rock band from Kelowna, British Columbia. The band was originally formed in 1983 and has been broken up and reunited twice. The band's current lineup Chris and Tom Hooper along with Kevin Kane is the original band formation minus Vincent Jones. The band's 4th studio album "Now and Again" came out in July 1989 under Nettwerk records. Out of all the albums Savannah has chosen, she finally picks one truly near and dear to her heart. For episode 27, we take a look at Kevin Gilbert and his 1995 album "Thud."
Kevin Gilbert was a rock artist from Sacramento, California. He was born November 20th, 1966, and passed away on May 18, 1996, at the age of 29. Gilbert worked with several projects to varying degrees including Eddie Money, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Keith Emerson and Sheryl Crow. His debut solo album "Thud" was released in March 1995 under PRA. Thud would also be the last album to be released before his unfortunate passing the following year. It's been a little while since we looked at an album celebrating an anniversary, but that changes today! For episode 26, we look at the massively successful U2 and their 1987 album "The Joshua Tree." The album turns 35 years old on March 9, 2022, so what better time than now to check it out!
U2 is a rock and alternative band from Dublin, Ireland that formed in 1976. Through the '80s and into the '90s, U2 found massive success as well as notoriety for their charitable and humanitarian efforts. Their 5th studio album "The Joshua Tree" was released in March 1987 under Island Records. The album spawned 5 hits, including "Where the Streets Have No Name", "With or Without You", "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For", "In God's Country", and "One Tree Hill." A quarter of the way to 100 episodes, and we're still flying! This week for episode 25, Savannah picks out the band Fishbone and their 1993 album "Give a Monkey a Brain and He'll Swear He's the Center of the Universe." *Need to catch my breath after that one*
Fishbone is a funk metal band out of Los Angeles, California. They formed in 1979 and are currently still active today. Their fourth full length studio album "Give a Monkey a Brain and He'll Swear He's the Center of the Universe" was released in May 1993 under Columbia Records and was recorded at One on One Studios. The album produced five singles including "Swim", "Unyielding Conditioning", "Servitude", "Black Flowers", and "No Fear." For music, merch and more, go to www.fishbone.net.

Another week, another episode. This week for episode 24, Kris has chosen the 2007 album "The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust!" by Saul Williams!
Saul Williams is a rapper, actor, singer, songwriter and poet from New York. He has a BA in acting and philosophy, as well as an MFA in acting. He started performing live poetry in 1995 and started making music in 1999. T.I.R.A.L.O.N.T. was released in November 2007. It's William's third studio album. Time to push on forward with Episode 23. This week is Savannah's pick, and it's all about Living Colour and their 1988 debut album "Vivid."
Living Colour is a hard rock/funk metal band out of New York City, New York. They formed in 1984, but wouldn't release their debut until four years later. They have been described as heavy metal, funk, jazz, hip hop, punk, and alt-rock/metal. Their debut album "Vivid" came out in May 1988. It was recorded in New York City through three different studios; Skyline, Sound on Sound, and Right Track Studios. The album was released through Epic Records and co-produced by Rolling Stone's Mick Jagger.

Episode 22 is now HEAR for you... what an awful pun. But it's a great episode though! This week we take a look at Animals As Leaders and their 2009 self-titled debut album!
Animals as leaders is a progressive metal band out of Washington, DC. The band was originally created in 2007 but lead guitarist Tosin Abasi. Second guitarist Javier Reyes and drummer Matt Halpem (replaced by Navene Koperweis in 2009, and Koperweis was replaced by Matt Garstka in 2012) joined the band soon after the release of the self-titled album for touring support, only to become full-time members for every release since. Megadeth is a heavy metal band from Los Angeles, California. They formed in 1983, shortly after frontman Dave Mustaine parted ways with his former band Metallica. Their fifth studio album "Countdown to Extinction" was released in July 1992. it was recorded at "The Enterprise" in Burbank, California, and was released through Capitol Records. For episode 20, we used theshfl.com again to give us another randomized album to look at. If you remember, we did this for episode 10 as well. This time we pulled Bob Dylan and his 1966 album "Blonde On Blonde."
Bob Dylan is an iconic folk artist born in Duluth, Minnesota until residing in New York City, New York. His seventh studio album "Blonde On Blonde" was released in June 1966 was released through Columbia Records, and recorded at two different Columbia studios; one in New York City, and the other in Nashville. The album had five singles, the highest chartist and most well-known of the bunch being "Rainy Day Women No. 12 & 35."
