Episode 42: Frank Zappa ”Apostrophe”
Nearing the end of season 2 of the podcast, but not before we hit episode 42 and listen to "Apostrophe" by Frank Zappa!
Frank Zappa was a musician, composer and songwriter born on December 21st, 1940 in Baltimore, Maryland. Zappa took an interest in music when he was in high school where he became the drummer of his first band. After his parents bought a phonograph, Zappa began to grow his record collection. He listened to R&B, doo-wop, jazz, modernist music and experimental. Zappa would go on to become the guitarist for the band The Mothers Of Invention until they disbanded in 1968. Eventually, he would start his own solo career and he took off from there. His fifth solo album and 18th overall "Apostrophe" was released in March 1974. It was recorded in studios in New York and California, self-produced, and released through DiscReet Records. The album hit #10 don't the US Billboard 200 and went gold there as well. The album spawned two singles "Cosmik Debris" and "Don't Eat the Yellow Snow"
